AlJazeera.net
| A group of former Israeli soldiers say they have new evidence of potential war crimes committed by the Israeli army during the war on Gaza. A taperecording of Nadia Matar’s call for the assassination of Mahmoud Abbas
Mondoweiss
| A number of people have asked if I have a recording for the report that Israeli colonist Nadia Matar called for the killing of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas last night during a lecture at the Safra Synagogue on E. 63rd Street in New York. Here’s an audio, including about 10 minutes of the 1-1/2 hour lecture. At the beginning, a guy in the crowd (somewhat inaudibly) asks Matar, What do you do with a million Palestinians? Matar gives a rambling and hair-raising answer, most of which is here, including the statement that Israel should have kicked out all the Arabs in ’48 or ’67 and grabbed the Temple Mount, too…

Mousawi, Freeman and Galloway: Three musketeers or stooges?
Sometimes good guys are tripped but still excel at the finish line
Franklin Lamb
| When Charles Freeman, a veteran diplomat slated to become the top U.S. intelligence analyst, withdrew from consideration on March 9, 2009 he released a statement denouncing the Israel Lobby for “character assassination.” “I have concluded that the barrage of libelous distortions of my record would not cease upon my entry into office. The effort to smear me and to destroy my credibility would instead continue. The libels on me and their easily traceable email trails show conclusively that there is a powerful lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East. The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency and include character assassination, selective misquotation, the willful distortion of the record, the fabrication of falsehoods, and an utter disregard for the truth”…

Is America Already a Police State?
By Nathan Coe, GNN
| In the last eight years we have seen a slew of police state legislation, to the point that it has often been hard to keep up. By now, most take the Department of Homeland Security for granted, but the implications of its emergence should not be ignored. We’ve all, of course, heard of the PATRIOT Act*, though by now it is in the back of our minds, having been normalized in the discourse of the mainstream, corporate media. A few remember the ‘continuity of government’ me asures implemented during 9/11 (though few are aware that they were never revoked and instead left in place indefinitely). Many haven’t forgotten the Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003. Still, many Americans have lost track of the legislative developments, or assumed that the end of the Bush era meant the end of the era of police state preparations, which it obviously did not…

Anti-Arab attacks ‘on the rise’ in Israel
| Anti-Arab verbal and physical attacks inside Israel have spiked in the wake of elections held earlier this year in which right-wing parties made major gains, a human rights group said on Sunday.
